Soak the tamarind in warm water, extract the juice and set aside.

Heat oil in a pot, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and asafoetida. Let them sizzle.

Add curry leaves, dried red chilies, and minced garlic. Sauté for a few seconds.

Pour in the tamarind juice, add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, and salt. Bring to a boil.

Add the rasam powder and simmer for about 10-12 minutes.

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
