Rinse the basmati rice until the water runs clear, then soak for at least 30 minutes.

Marinate the chicken with yogurt, turmeric, red chili powder, and half of the ginger-garlic paste. Let it marinate for an hour.

Heat oil in a large pot, add the sliced onions, remaining ginger-garlic paste, and sauté until golden brown.
